Where Do Denture Odors Come From?

Dentures are truly a wonderful invention, after all, they have the power to transform your smile for the better; however, it is possible for your dentures to develop an odor if you are not careful. Keep reading to discover the root cause of dental odors, as well as some things that you can do to eliminate them.

Causes and Cures

So you have just realized that there is a funky smell emanating from your mouth, and your pretty sure it is not the food that you ate; this could be the result of your dentures developing an odor. Denture odor is caused by bacteria building-up on your dentures. This can happen to anyone, and it is usually because you are not properly cleaning your dentures.

The following is a list of procedures that you can do to make sure that bacterial growth is kept to a minimum so that it does not lead to unwanted odors: take your dentures out and soak them in a denture cleaner overnight because bacteria grows very quickly while you sleep, clean them very well with a soft-bristle brush before putting them in, and make sure to clean your mouth multiple times per day to keep them clean and less likely to transfer bacteria to your dentures. It is very important that you not only clean your teeth and gums, but that you also clean the roof and base of your mouth as well as your tongue; an antiseptic mouthwash will also help kill bacteria in places that you missed and decrease their growth rate.
