Protecting Your Dental Bonding is What Helps Them Last the Longest

Bonding typically lasts for around a decade, but this does depend on where the procedure is located in your mouth and how you take care of your teeth afterwards. While you shouldn't expect bonding to resist stains or respond to whitening treatments, you can keep your bonding bright by following a few simple procedures.
Proper Daily Oral Hygiene
Following a healthy oral hygiene routine is important. This includes brushing your teeth with a fluoride toothpaste and ultra-soft toothbrush twice daily. Avoid using baking soda or any type of an abrasive toothpaste. You should also make sure to floss at least once daily. Make sure that after you're done, you rinse your mouth with a mouthwash that contains no alcohol because alcohol can weaken the bonding material
Watch What you Eat Food and beverages can easily stain your bonding. This is because the composite material dentists use is prone to having this happen. As such, you'll want to avoid drinking wine, tea, and sports drinks. You'll also want to avoid eating bright colored food like berries. When you eat these foods, make sure you drink a full glass of water directly afterwards.
Avoid Chewing on Things That Aren't Food
To get the most out of your dental bonding you'll want to avoid chewing on things that could crack the material. This means you shouldn't use your teeth for opening food wrappers, bite your nails, chew on pens, or eat ice.
Hard and sharp food or objects can crack your bonds, leaving behind sharp edges or making it feel “odd” when you bite down. Additionally, you'll want to avoid smoking (cigarettes, cigars, and pipes) or chewing tobacco because these can easily turn your dental bonding a yellow or brown color.
