How a Partial Denture Can Save Your Oral Health

Posted on 7/10/2018 by Dr. Shiotsu
How a Partial Denture Can Save Your Oral HealthWhen some people hear the word dentures, they think of George Washington and a mouth full of wooden teeth. While there are people who replace all their teeth with dentures, there are also many people that only need to replace some of their teeth.

They can turn to partial dentures. The appearance of a full set of teeth because of partial dentures is a good thing, but there are other ways that partial dentures help. They also help with oral health.

How Partial Dentures Help

Partial dentures can replace teeth that have been lost due to trauma or for other reasons. When a person loses some of their teeth, but not all their teeth, the partial dentures can fill in the missing spaces. This helps in a few ways. It improves the appearance and provides a full and complete smile. It boosts the confidence of the wearer.

If a person does not replace the missing teeth, the teeth that are left can move and shift to try to fill the space. This can lead to more problems. It can cause the remaining teeth to become loose and they are more likely to fall out or break as a result. The partial dentures can prevent this from happening and can provide support to the teeth that surround the dentures.

Partial dentures are often a temporary measure that can help prepare the gums for dental implants later.

Providing a Second Chance

For some, the loss of teeth and the use of partial dentures can serve as a wakeup call. It can remind a person that they are at risk for more problem if they do not learn how to take care of their teeth. The partial dentures require a person to follow steps to take care of them and many of these steps can help them keep their real teeth and gums healthier.

If you want to learn more about the use and care of partial dentures or if they are something that can help you, contact the professionals at our office to ask any questions you may have.
