Full Mouth Reconstructive Surgery
Mercer Island, WA

An elderly patient talks with her Mercer Island dentist about the possibility of full mouth reconstruction.Your mouth has many important responsibilities and performs some crucial functions every day. Your mouth enables you to bite and chew food, initiating the digestive process. It allows you to communicate using speech. Your mouth also provides you with a beautiful, confident smile. There are many factors. Unfortunately, that can cause significant harm to the appearance and health of your mouth, including gum disease and tooth decay all the way to traumatic facial injuries. At Goichi Shiotsu, DDS, we can help to restore the functions and appearance of your mouth with full mouth restoration.

What is Full Mouth Restoration?

A full mouth restoration is a treatment that usually involves the use of several procedures to rebuild and restore the functions and appearance of your whole mouth. This particular treatment is similar to a treatment known as a smile makeover, with the exception that a full mouth restoration focuses more on the health of your mouth, along with its health. Full mouth restorations are highly individualized treatments, with your restoration unique to your specific needs.

Full Mouth Restoration Procedures

A full mouth restoration is a customizable treatment plan. There are several procedures that may be involved in your specific treatment plan. These procedures may include such treatments as gum disease treatment, gum recontouring, crown lengthening, root canal therapy, tooth whitening, dental restorations (ceramic crowns, porcelain veneers, tooth colored fillings), dental implants, orthodontics, and even oral surgery.

Are You a Candidate?

Smiling woman in chair after Mercer Island dentist full mouth reconstruction, which is tailored to each individual patient at Goichi Shiotsu, DDS.To determine your candidacy for full mouth restoration, we need to conduct a thorough evaluation of your mouth. In general, candidates for full mouth restoration have experienced issues with their oral health, and possibly even the overall condition or appearance. You may be missing teeth, suffer from bruxism, or you may have experienced oral trauma. Your teeth and gums may be at risk as a result of advancing gum disease. With a consultation, we can determine exactly what issues are causing you trouble, and what treatments will help to provide you with the best possible restorative results. Your consultation is thorough.

First, we perform a thorough evaluation of your mouth. We check its overall condition, looking at your teeth and gums for signs of tooth decay, cavities, gum disease, and more. Along with looking at the inside of your mouth, we also take a look at your mouth from the outside. This allows us to assess any balance issues that may be present.

Along with checking the visible structures in your mouth, we will also take a look at the condition of your jawbone. This involves the use of X-ray images. These images allow us to see everything that is happening below the gum line. We can check the health of your jaw, see your periodontal ligaments, and see any damage to teeth that might otherwise be invisible.

Your Procedure

Once your examination is complete, we will be able to determine the best course of action for your specific needs. Every procedure is unique to each patient. Most full mouth restoration procedures take 2 to 3 visits to complete, even if you need several procedures done. Healing times, if any invasive procedures are needed, will vary depending on what has been done. No matter what procedures we perform, we will provide you with specific care instructions and make sure to schedule a follow-up to ensure the health of your mouth.

If multiple oral health issues are affecting the health and appearance of your mouth, a full mouth restoration may be the right answer for you. For more information, and to schedule your consultation, contact Goichi Shiotsu, DDS at (206) 232-3600 today.
